Over the past quarter-century, we’ve grown from a small local business into a leading name in custom home building and remodeling on the Monterey Peninsula. A Heartfelt Celebration
To mark this special occasion, we recently gathered for a family picnic at the Lewis residence. It was a day full of laughter, stories, and reflection – a time to connect and reminisce about our journey together. The strong, family-like bonds within our team were on full display, reminding us of the trust and collaboration that have been central to our success. We celebrated not only 25 years of hard work and dedication but also the exciting road that lies ahead.
Where We’ve Been
John Lewis founded Lewis Builders with a vision: to create homes that bring happiness and enhance the lives of our clients. Starting from humble beginnings, John’s passion for excellence and unwavering commitment to integrity quickly set Lewis Builders apart. Reflecting on this journey, John shared, “I built this company for [10-20] years at 4:30 in the morning while everyone else was sleeping. … If you’re passionate about something, it’s easy to do.”
This dedication laid the groundwork for the growth that followed. Over the years, we’ve expanded our expertise, taken on increasingly complex and high-end projects, and assembled a team of talented, passionate professionals. According to John, what truly sets our team apart is not just their skill, but their diverse backgrounds and the genuine care they have for one another. Many of our team members bring unique perspectives from other industries, enriching our approach to design and construction. This blend of experience and fresh ideas has become our greatest advantage, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

Ladera: A Turning Point
The Ladera project was a pivotal moment for Lewis Builders, marking our entry into the Carmel market and the multimillion-dollar construction arena. Transforming a 1960s home into a stunning Mid-century Modern masterpiece was a bold and exciting challenge. The success of Ladera put us on the map and brought us closer as a team, showcasing the creativity and dedication we bring to every project.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, the future of Lewis Builders is filled with promise. As CEO Jay Davisson shared in a recent interview, “I believe that Lewis Builders will become the premier design build firm in Monterey County, no doubt in my mind.” Jay’s decision to join Lewis Builders was fueled by his admiration for the company and the people within it. “I saw what John brought to this company. He built it from the ground up. … I really love to work with people who want to grow and develop and provide exceptional products to their customers.”

He sees the company not just as a business, but as a legacy, one that will continue to flourish through our commitment to quality, integrity, and giving back. Jay’s leadership is focused on ensuring that the core values that have guided Lewis Builders for 25 years remain central as the company expands and evolves.

He believes that the best is yet to come, with the team working cohesively toward a shared goal. Looking ahead 5 to 10 years, John is confident that the collective efforts of the team will lead to accomplishments beyond what any one person could have imagined.
